To Join Goodreads or Not? | Lone Star Signers, San Antonio, Texas

I have a little bit of a problem. Too many books, and not enough time.

To Join Goodreads or Not? | Lone Star Signers, San Antonio, Texas

I LOVE to read. We make multiple trips to the library each week--books for me, books for the girls, books for signing classes. It's pretty much a part-time job keeping track of all the books and due dates on our multiple library cards.

I've been reading a ton of non-fiction lately--mostly parenting/homeschooling books. The last three or four were duds, so I'm hoping to find a few gems hidden in this stack. (The last few fiction books I've read were completely depressing--Eleanor & Park, The Fault in Our Stars, Me Before You. I need some happy.)

Another struggle with books? There is SO much great content on the Internet these days, and it's a lot easier for me to read a quick blog post or article than choose a book, re-read the previous few pages to get back into it, and then stay focused long enough to read a chapter. For the first time in forever, I'm actually returning unfinished/skimmed books to the library!

In January, I started nine books. I skimmed and returned three, liked but didn't finish two, finished but didn't like one, and finished AND liked three. I have four more in the pile that are in progress.

My question for you: Are you on Goodreads? Would you recommend it? My first thought is, "I do NOT need one more thing to keep up with!" But if YOU tell me it's worth it, I'll give it a go.

  1. Do it!! I love it :)

I like it because I have a place to track what I read, plus I get recommendations from my friends!!

And it's not so fast paced that you have to check it multiple times a day like other social media programs.

  2. I love Goodreads because it allows me to keep up with my lists of what I have read and what I want to read. And I often find good book recommendations from friends there. I usually only check it when I'm looking for something new to read so it's not another big time-sucking social network. ;)

  3. I really like it a lot. I only go on there when I am starting or finishing a book...the only thing is, last year I couldn't remember what I had read because I did not physically write the titles down. Weird. So now I am keeping a paper and digital record. Not a must have but a very helpful app.
